DOLPHINS 2012 SEASON PREPARATIONS

By Dauntless Dolphin

Noosa Dolphins Rugby Union will be holding a sign-on day for all senior players and colts at the Club on 25th February 2012 at 10am.   All interested, new and current players need to attend.  For those paid-up financial players, there will be prize draws including Rugby gear, drink and dinner vouchers.  Registration will be followed by the inaugural “Dolphins Shield T10” cricket match between the Hayden Perugini XV and the Jon Lewis XV.

The following weekend, 3rd March 2012, sees the Dolphins host the Emerald Miners in a trial match commencing at 3.15pm.   The Miners are coached by former Dolphin stalwart, Darryl Corrie and will no doubt be looking to upset the home team with some vigorous play.

Saturday, 10th March 2012, sees Dolphin Oval hosting the first Junior Development Round of the season.   It will be a great opportunity to see many talented young Dolphins getting stuck in.  The day will culminate in the seniors taking on Surfers Paradise in our annual trial match at 3.15pm.   A great rivalry will continue this year.  Not only pride, but a new annual trophy is on the line.   Last year, Surfers Paradise proved too good for the local side and the 2012 Dolphins are keen to make amends.

Pre-season training has been progressing well under the careful eye of fitness guru, Scott Braby.   Scott has been involved for many years with surf lifesaving and himself competes each year in the gruelling Coolangatta Gold.    Dauntless Dolphin took a few minutes to speak with the guru and get this assessment of the early form of the 2012 Dolphins:

“The boys are progressing well.  We commenced prior to Christmas concentrating on strength and particularly, core strength.   We have now progressed into some more running and cardio work with an emphasis on Rugby-specific strengthening.   I think the boys are really enjoying my sessions although none of them seem to say too much by the end.   A couple of guys such as Mick Harrold and Sam Hansen have really stood out in terms of their pre-season strength and fitness.   The boys are working hard and I’m sure it will pay off as the season progresses.”
